Cabinet approves $19.1M drainage and irrigation contract

 Georgetown, GINA, June 7, 2007

 Cabinet earlier this week offered its no-objection to the award of a contract valued at $19.1M to facilitate urgent drainage and irrigation works.

Residents of Friendship, Supply and Brickery on the East Bank Demerara can expect relief following execution of the works.

Continuous monitoring and evaluation of rainfall by the Administration has led to the identification of areas which require special attention.

The recent contract forms part of a national effort to evaluate the effects of the rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Civil Defence Commission has been mobilised throughout low-lying riverain areas in Upper-Region Four and Region Five, to monitor the effects of the continuous rainfall.
