Agri-products to take centre state at Canje Nite

Georgetown, GINA, October 21, 2007

Local agricultural producers will be afforded the opportunity to showcase their products during the annual Canje Nite which will be held on October 27 in Berbice, Region Six.
            The event which is organized by the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) and the Ministry of Agriculture will be held under the theme “Made in Guyana, Grown in Guyana” and will be the last major event in observance of Agriculture Month 2007.
            Several agriculture agencies will be participating in this year’s event including the National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI), the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) and the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO). There will also be a number of private sector companies participating.
In September the GMC’s 'Guyana Nite' 2007 which attracted over 10,000 patrons was held to promote the local manufacturing industry. It was staged under the theme Fuelling Agricultural Diversification at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Local agri-exhibitions are held mainly for agricultural producers to promote various local products including fresh and processed products, livestock and dairy products.
Agriculture Month 2007 is being observed under the theme ‘The Right to Food – A Reality in Guyana’.
  Several activities have been held to highlight the agricultural potential of the country and to encourage more growth in the sector.
