-to assess situation at Retrieve

Georgetown, GINA, September 14, 2007

Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn and a team of officials of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) will visit Leguan tomorrow to assess the situation at Retrieve where work is ongoing to seal a sea defence breach.

Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud said, “I have assigned a team of agriculture official to assess the situation and I have been in touch with the sea defence officials to hasten the work so as to minimise the impact on agricultural activities on the island.”

Region Three Chairman Julius Faerber said that work has been ongoing around the clock to seal the breach which occurred a few days ago. He said that while work was in progress to block a leakage at the koker, another one developed resulting in the breach.

He said workers are building a revetment and filling concrete mixture into bags and using them as a buffer around the koker.
